Upcoming Updates

GPS tracking system Wialon Hosting is constantly improved and enriched with new functionality. Much attention is being paid to performance and reliability of the system. At the moment, we are moving up towards a more technological platform B4.

In the nearest future, special developer's tools (SDK) will be released which allows you creating your own applications for Wialon Hosting. An entirely new structure of access management (ACL) is being developed. Considerable changes are going to touch cartography (Gurtam Maps).

SDK

SDK is a software development kit that allows for the creation of additional applications and sites for Wialon Hosting platform. It provides an API (application programming interface) as a source code based specification intended to be used as an interface by software components to communicate with each other.

Two areas of SDK development are being developed at the moment:

  • Remote API gives access to data through low-level HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) requests. Using it, you can develop your own web services, mobile device applications, etc. on Wialon basis.
  • JavaScript API gives you access to Wialon Hosting functions from your web application using JavaScript. IT considerable decreases time of creation a web application because basic procedures have been already implemented.

Gurtam Maps

Modernization of GIS system has taken two main directions:

  • GM Searching upgrade: searching address information by key words.
  • GM Geocoding upgrade: detecting addresses by coordinates.

This will solve the problem of lacking address information in reports and other modules. Some alterations also will be done to address formatting.

Access Rights (ACL)

A completely new structure of ACL (Access Control List) is being implemented.

As before, you can allow access to the following system objects: users, units, unit groups, and accounts. The set of basic rights (applicable to any type of object) is rather extended:

  • view object,
  • view its properties,
  • view its custom fields,
  • query messages and reports,
  • rename,
  • change image,
  • create, edit, and delete custom fields,
  • assign access to the object,
  • delete object.

Apart from that, each object type now has its own specific rights. Here are some of those specific rights concerning units and unit groups (as before, rights assigned to a groups of units are expanded to each unit in this group):

  • execute commands,
  • view events,
  • view unit log,
  • view command aliases,
  • view routes assigned,
  • view service intervals,
  • register events (binding drivers, changing status, storing counters, etc.),
  • edit units log,
  • manage command aliases,
  • manage routes,
  • manage service intervals,
  • manage sensors,
  • manage counters,
  • update properties used in reports,
  • use unit in jobs, notifications, and retranslators,
  • update hardware type, unique ID, phone number, and password,
  • import messages,
  • export messages,
  • delete messages.
